COURSE OFFERINGS: ENGLISH

English 9 | Foundations in Literature and writing | NOn-REGENTS Course

This course serves as the foundation to AP Language and Composition by developing critical thinking, argumentative skills, and clear verbal and written communication skills.

English 10 | Pre-AP English | Regents Course

Pre-AP English 10 is a designed to prepare students for the NYS English Regents, the AP Language & Composition Exam (taken in 11th grade) and the AP Literature & Composition Exam (taken in 12th grade) through interrogating various genres within the realms of fiction and nonfiction. Students have ample and diverse opportunities to read, discuss, and write, strengthening their communication skills and helping them build up their identity and confidence as literate young adults.

English 11 | AP English Language and Composition | AP COURSE

This is a college-level course focused on analyzing, interpreting, and crafting arguments in a variety of nonfiction genres. Students will explore how writers use rhetorical strategies to inform, persuade, and inspire audiences. Emphasis is placed on critical reading, analytical, and argumentative writing, and revision as part of the writing process.

English 12 | AP English Literature and Composition | AP COURSE

AP Literature & Composition is a college-level English course that develops students’ ability to read, analyze, and interpret poetry, prose, and drama while exploring themes, literary techniques, and the ways authors create meaning. Students strengthen their critical thinking, discussion, and analytical writing skills through close reading and literary argumentation; an optional AP Exam is offered in May for students who wish to potentially earn college credit.
